Akshay Kumar hits a police inspector car in Canada

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumaris in news again. Though he is awesome in performing action scenes, this time he slightly went wrong and ended up hitting a police car. While shooting a scene for his upcoming film, ‘Thank You’, Akshay Kumar went wrong in road and accidentally hit a police car. The incident took place in Canada and Akki had to pay fine to the cops.

A unit member said, “It was a simple shot where Akshay had to reverse his car and then move forward. The camera was set across the road to get a proper shot and the unit members were there too. There were a couple of retakes from different angles. Akshay did not realise that a cop had parked his car behind him. So while giving another take, Akshay hit the police car.”

Though the director and other unit member tried to explain to the police that they were shooting for a film and unintentionally they were hit by the actor, the police refused to listen to them and charged fine for the incident.

The source added, “The cop refused to listen to Akshay. The unit saw the commotion and rushed to the other side, but the cop had already cut the ticket and demanded a fine. Akshay had no choice but to cough up the fine. The unit and director Anees Bazmeeexplained to the cop that it was for a shot.

The cop ended up laughing but he had already fined Akshay. He then spoke to everyone in the unit and even clicked a picture with Akshay on his cell phone. Akshay jokingly told Anees that this is his first ticket ever and he is sad that he got it in Canadaand not India.”

Anees Bazmee confirmed the incident and said, “Yes, Akshay got a ticket. He didn’t realise that a car had come and parked behind him. We are enjoying teasing Akshay about getting his first ticket.”

Akshay Kumar's Housefull Box Office Collection (Record)

Housefull has taken an excellent start this morning over its first few shows. Multiplexes have seen excellent collections all over while single screens are also very good. The best collections have come in the North with Delhi city and East Punjab multiplexes being fantastic and Rajasthan and CI also performing superbly.

Some single screens in CP Berar had a slower start but multiplexes were good in the circuit. Hyderabad also suffered a bit as the city had a few bomb scare stories.

Overall the opening is big as was expected and bought relief all around after the dull period. The weekend should emerge with huge collections as Saturday is a holiday which will further boost the film.
Housefull Gives Akshay Kumar His Biggest Opening Ever

Akshay Kumar has his biggest opening ever in the form of Housefull. The early estimates also suggest the second biggest first day in the history of Hindi cinema. Based on very early estimates the first day business of Housefull is around the 10 crore nett region. This easily smashes the 7.25 crore nett for Singh is Kinng and 7.50 crore nett for Kambakkht Ishq which were the biggest first day openers of Akshay Kumar.

Housefull is looking to settle behind the record 13 crore nett of Three Idiots as the second biggest first day in the history of Hindi cinema but it has to be noted that the Three Idiots record was achieved on Christmas Day holiday which is regarded as the biggest day of the year for box office collections in India today. This makes Housefull the biggest non holiday opening day in the history of Hindi cinema.

Housefull Movie Review

Sajid Khan returns after the success of Heyy Baby, a spilt milkfood and soiled diaper soiree that did manage to tickle your funny bone with its infant histrionics. With Housefull, he doesn't stray much and tries to create a similar riot of hilarious episodes, centred around two couples -- Akshay Kumar-Deepika Padukone and Riteish Deshmukh-Lara Dutta.

Trouble lies not so much with the couples as with their relatives: Lara's estranged Pappa, Boman Irani and Deepika's angry brother, Arjun Rampal. Can the boys manage to win their beloved's parivar walas? Not an easy task, specially when both are losers of sorts and don't have the mandatory big house, big money, big lifestyle....

The film begins on a funny note, with Akshay trying to seek refuge from his bad luck by moving in with his best buddy, Riteish and his wife, Lara. A vacuum cleaner turned awry and a tryst with a tame tiger on the sofa are some of the spoofs that showcase Akshay Kumar in his quintessential comic act: deadpan humour by the I'm-just-a-simpleton hero. You do settle down for some fun and games, but sadly, the film peters off into a not-so-funny middle with Akshay serenading Jiah Khan and the viewer having to endure a prolonged Chunky Pandey cameo as Aakhri Pasta, an Italian hotelier who actually makes you want to howl than laugh.

Thankfully, he is bundled off, but the muddlesome middle has already taken its toll on the film by putting the brakes on comedy. The second half picks up again as the foursome rent a house and the relatives -- Boman and Arjun -- arrive. The game of subterfuge and mistaken identities begins with Akshay reluctantly pitching in as Lara's husband and Deepika's boyfriend and trying his goofy best to win over both Boman and Arjun.

It's literally slapstick humour, with a lot of slaps flying around between simians and humans, humans and humans. Nevertheless, it makes you laugh, provided you don't go looking for artistry and intelligence. Also, you'll find the usual jokes about homosexuality and Gujarati incredulousness, made famous by Kal Ho Na Ho. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's audio track has a few peppy numbers which however do not promise to end up as chartbusters, except Mika's `apni to jaise-taise...' The rest of the songs are good while they last. Period. Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh share a better chemistry between themselves than they do with the girls. Wish the Boman Irani and Lilette Dubey track had been explored further. It did have great potential.

All said and done, Housefull might not set the summer scorching, but it does create a ripple after a prolonged lull at the multiplexes. Let the summer begin to simmer, then sizzle....

A word about:

Performances: Akshay Kumar never laughs in the film, yet manages to make you laugh with his `loser' act. Riteish and Akshay share a combustible chemistry which is much more than we can say about Akshay and Deepika: quite thanda.

Dialogue: Simple and slapstick.

Story: Revolves around the usual formula of a comedy of errors and mixed-up identities.

Cinematography: Vikas Sivaraman keeps his camera mostly indoors, except when it moves to Italy.

Music: Shankar-Ehsan-Loy do not come up with an inspired track. They just fit the bill, except when they reinvent the popular Laawaris number `aapka kya hoga, janab-e-wali'.

Styling: Both Deepika and Lara sport the urbane and chic look with their skimpy dresses. Jiah Khan oscillates between the traditional and the oomphy image by donning both the salwar kameez and the bikini. The boys -- Akshay, Arjun, Riteish -- are cool and casual.

Katrina Kaif's Interview

Katrina Kaif surely has proved her acting caliber on the silver screen. From her first film Boom to Raajneeti, she has experimented with her look, performances and above all she has improved dancing as well as her speech skills too.

Undoubtedly, the directors and the producers have broken the myth that she is just a glam doll. The credit nonetheless goes to Prakash Jha for his film Raajneeti in which Kats has taken the trouble of dubbing the dialogues in pure Hindi.

So how was it working with Prakash Jha, who believes in hard-hitting subjects with purely Hindi dialogues?
Yes! It was not difficult for me. I can mug up ten pages at a stretch. I have an accent problem but I’ve tried to manage it well. In fact, when I sat down to surf some of the real characters from the political arena; I thought that in the quest of getting into some real political character, I was going wrong. Hence I decided to follow my reel character only.

As a modern contemporary youth, I have tried to get the body language of Priyanka Gandhi. But by no means can you compare my reel character to any living political characters. You guys are just comparing me to Sonia Gandhi because I too belong to an English mother, with fair skin and black hair which is not really so.

You came into this industry fresh, who do you give credit to as your Godfather?
Ya! I am not one belonging to the Bollywood industry. Everyone has a Godfather. I have not one but many Godfathers who may have helped me attain the kind of success I have achieved in this short span of my career. Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar have definitely helped me get to the horizon. I would also credit the blessings showered upon me by the almighty God which is why I have been able to achieve success.

It’s the survival of the fittest. And you are on the top of the female lead stars. How do you feel about it?
I feel good to be topping the list. If this comparison brings me on the top of the list why will I not like ranking. Human tendency is such that we love to be number one. Why will I not like the number game? But there ought to be a fair competition. We need not pursue wrong ways to just boost up our career. Our work needs to speak more than our action/words. If you say I’m topping the list in the number one game then I really feel elated.

Is it true that you are essaying Madhubala’s character in the biopic on Kishore Kumar?
I am open to doing good films. Being in the profession I need to know the script, if it is going to work or not. Yes! I do discuss it with my close people but the final decision rests with me. I am in the process of sorting out the details with UTV Productions. Nothing has been finalized as yet. I feel the media is in a bit of a hurry to publish news even before confirming it, which was not the case earlier.

What profession would you have pursued if you weren’t a part of the Bollywood industry?
I have always been a day dreamer. Probably because I had a sense of insecurity as we have been wanderers. We never were stationed in one place. I always loved to be a fire-fighter also performing stunts would always fancy me. I love to live in a castle built world.

You seem to be very excited about working with Hrithik, is it true?
Yes! I’m very excited about working with Hrithik tentatively in a movie titled Zindagi Mile Na Dobara. This film is surely going to be a path-breaking and a youthful film. I am sure it will be a brilliant film. My role is that of a free spirited girl. I'm really looking forward to work with Hrithik Roshan. Although it is a difficult character but I will surely be able to perform to the best of my ability.

How do you manage to stay in such a great shape?
I hate doing regular gym. I feel good exercise twice or thrice a week only. I remember how my trainer of Tees Maar Khan made me do rigorous exercises. But now I just tell him to schedule it only twice a week. I believe in maintaining a proper diet. I maintain myself by following the right kind of lifestyle.

Akshay Kumar wants to do a horror comedy

He is grown as an actor as well as a star, Bollywood’s action hero-turned-mass entertainer Akshay Kumar knows his roots and is very thankful to the three murtis who have shaped him into a comedian. He shared with this writer how he learnt the art of comedy from this three people – Priyadarshan, Rajkumar Santoshi and Neeraj Vohra.

He says, “Today, if I am known for my prowess as a comedy actor, undoubtedly I have to thank these three people. I’d always remain indebted to them for having enabled me to hone that potential which was lurking inside me at a time when I was labeled an action star. I have learnt so much from each one of them.

Rajji taught me how to say each and every line when I worked with him in his film Khakhi. I’d say that Rajji is a brilliant actor too who enacts each and every scene in front of his actors. I had a blast doing Phir Hera Pheri with Neeraj, Khakhi with Rajkumar Santoshi and Bhool Bhulaiya with Priyadarshan.

Akshay who has entertained the masses with his action and comedy is eagerly awaiting the feed back of his forthcoming ‘Housefull’ and we all know that he enjoys doing comedies and eventually has a desire to work in a horror comedy like ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’ once again.

Salman believed in me says Katrina Kaif

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif, who is all set to make a splash in her upcoming flim Raajneeti, says her mentor-turned-boyfriend Salman Khan was always sure of her doing well and making a mark for herself in the tinsel town.

"Apart from guiding me, Salman had confidence in me. He is not the person to say that because he is friendly with you. He will say it genuinely," said Katrina.

The 25-year-old actress feels that it was her destiny that she came into the Hindi film industry and succeeded. She has many people to thank for her soaring career here.

"There are too many people whom I can call my godfather. I am grateful and indebted to them. Even Akshay Kumar took a risk in working with me initially," she said. "He did not know me at all. He was at crossroads of his career. When he did Namastey London, people thought he had gone insane.

Nobody is going to damage or destroy himself to help somebody else. Salman believed in me and that is my good fortune and destiny," she said.

Katrina says the fact that her earlier films did well at the box office was a "miracle", helping her weave the success story. "Had those films failed, nobody could have done anything for me. I don't think I would have got a second chance if the movies bombed," she said.

Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai to show ‘Old is Gold’

Old, classic songs have always been a source of inspiration for Bollywood people. Not only songs, the actors of those days still reign the hearts for their unique style. While some remix the memorable melodies of those times, some try to reproduce the same as a tribute to the golden era.

And ‘Action Replay’ is one of them. Based on time-travel saga, this Akshay Kumar- Aishwarya Rai starrer earlier made news for including a retro number on the lines of John Travolta. Now it seems the film is going to include another song which will be a tribute to five leading Bollywood couples of the 1970s and will highlight their romance.

And the jodis are Amitabh-Jaya, Dharmendra-Hema, Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh, Rajesh-Mumtaz and Shashi Kapoor-Parveen Babi. Since the film has a retro feel, sources say that Akki and Aishwarya will be dressed just like these legendary couples did in their films.

So people, one can enjoy watching our Akshay romancing the ravishing Ash in typical filmy andaz.

While talking about the song, director Vipul Shah said that this song will start in a playful manner and then goes on to salute the stylish romance that was a trademark of the 1970s.

The song will be shot in Manali at the end of the month, sources added.

He stormed into the small screens and instantly captured the attention of TV viewers. Khiladi Kumar Akshay won over one and all the day he graced the small screens as the host of ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’. But now with Priyanka Chopra taking over his mantle in the show’s new season, don’t be disheartened that the actor will disappear from the scene.

For, Askay is said to be exploring his options for now. While he is keen to do television as well as films, he wants to go one step further than simply being the host. And interestingly, it is heard that Akki will be back on TV in a new role.

According to sources, Akshay will soon don the producer’s hat for an action-based show. The concept will include martial arts - something the actor is synonymous with. Several ideas regarding the show and its format are being tossed around for now, adds the sources.

Katrina injured while dancing with Akshay in Tees Maar Khan

Katrina Kaif ended up getting hurt while shooting a groovy dance sequence with Akshay Kumar for Farah Khan’s upcoming movie Tees Maar Khan at Malshej Ghat, a few hours’ drive from Mumbai.

It appears that both Katrina and Akshay were in a groovy mood and wanted to put their best foot forward while filming a ballet-like dance sequence on Friday. However, due to some mistiming in the dance move or perhaps they got too close, Katrina’s head bumped into Akshay’s jaw and teeth.

Strangely, nothing happened to Akshay but Katrina got injured on her head and felt dizzy and disoriented after the bump. While Farah Khan rushed to look after her, Akshay was in a jocular mood and scared Katrina further by saying that she would have to get a few stitches.

Katrina was attended by a doctor and given all medical attention. She’s learnt to have resumed the film’s shoot now.

Just a few days back, Katrina had fainted on the sets of the movie. Before that she battled a series of health scares including food poisoning and surgery.

Housefull will be Akshay's biggest opening film ever

First theatrical promo of Housefull is out and undoubtedly, it has got to an all around positive response. While the makers have done well by amalgamating class with mass in the First Look, they have also smartly integrated a shot from the film which features the three leading ladies - Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta and Jiah Khan - in a two piece bikini.

While the film does appear to be a good family entertainer in the offering, director Sajid and Co. have also proudly declared that Housefull will be Akshay Kumar's biggest opening film ever. Still, one can't help but pop a question - Was the bikini scene really crucial to the film? Also, was that integrated in the film so that recovering money becomes faster for its makers?'

"Housefull is certainly not dependant on the bikini factor to help it recover money", comes an outright denial from Sajid, "Yes, all my leading ladies are seen in bikinis as part of the song, but on a beach resort you don't expect them to come out of the ocean wearing salwaar-kameez. Also the way it has been shot is aesthetic and not vulgar by any means. Moreover, it has been choreographed by Farah who is known for her class treatment."

But still, there is a definite sex element that comes in! One wonders what made Sajid opt for it when during Heyy Babyy, he had clearly stated that he would never resort to any gimmicks or sex angle?

"You have to differentiate between something looking sexy v/s some one used as a sex object from the selling perspective", Sajid explains his point of view here, "In fact throughout it's narrative, Housefull doesn't have a single second of vulgarity in it."

Going back in the past, Sajid adds, "Same was the case with Heyy Babyy even though the film did have its share of hotness. It was required because the plot was set in Sydney and revolved around three bachelor friends for whom the only time pass was sleeping around. Still, family audiences went to watch the film and so would be the case with Housefull as well."

Well, one looks forward to that happening, with or without the bikini scene. With Housefull being the biggest entertainer in the offering soon after the conclusion of IPL, one can well expect Bollywood starved audience to hop into theaters and watch this Sajid Nadiadwala production that stars Akshay Kumar in lead along with Riteish Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal, Boman Irani, Chunky Pandey and Randhir Kapoor. With music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Housefull releases all over on 30th April.

The Sajid Khan directed movie will hit the theatres on April 30 and is being produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The three leading ladies of the movie are busy bonding with each other. Deepika and Lara being from Bangalore have had a camaraderie right from the word go. The sizzling Jiah Khan was not to be left behind and has gelled well with the group.

Sonam replaces Katrina in Thank You

Sonam Kapoor is all set to say 'Thank You' to Anees Bazmee after her offered her a role in his next movie opposite Akshay Kumar. Anees had earlier cast Katrina Kaif in the movie but she pulled out of it after an initial not. Anees then approached Sonam's father Anil Kapoor for her date and Sonam has been roped in. Anees has worked with Anil in No Entry and No Problem and says Anil and Sonam are like family to him.

There were rumours that Katrina Kaif wasn't too interested in Farah Khan and her hubby Shirish Kunder's Tees Maar Khan either and Sonam was approached for that role too. Farah however could not convince Sonam for the role and Katrina was finalised for the movie. Incidentally even Tees Maar Khan has Akshay Kumar playing the lead. Sonam has impressed many with Bollywood with her performance in the movie Delhi 6.

Sonam Kapoor to have fun with Akshay Kumar

Sonam Kapoor is all set to venture into the genre of comedy. The talented actress has been roped in by Anees Bazmee’s for his next film. The film is titled Thank You and Sonam will be sharing the screen space with Akshay Kumar who was recently announced to be part of the film.

Sonam Kapoor confirms excitedly, “I have signed a film titled Thank You which will be directed by Anees Bazmee. I am being paired opposite Akshay Kumar. Thank You is being produced by UTV.”

Sonam has already proved her acting prowess in Saawariya and Delhi 6 although both the movies didn’t do well at the box-office. So, it will be interesting to see her in a comic-role. And considering the series of hits like Welcome and Singh Is Kinng in Anees’s kitty, Miss Kapoor must be really assured of success this time.

Wotsay Sonam?

De Dana Dan has a favourable start

Priyadarshan's much-awaited De Dana Dan opened to a 75% start on Day 1. The opening varied from 50% at some screens, at some plexes specifically, but was 80% to 90% at several plexes and single screens too. But the heartening news is that the film is carrying positive reports, with the audience enjoying the film. On Saturday and Sunday, the business was expected huge.
